Zaki could join Egypt squad

Amr Zaki could be named for Egypt’s friendlies against Ghana and Ivory Coast despite lack of club football, coach Diaa Al-Sayed said.

The Elazigspor striker, who is transfer-listed by request, has been nursing a hamstring injury recently and was hardly involved in first-team action for over a month.

But Egypt assistant coach Al-Sayed revealed that the Bulldozer could make the squad flying to the UAE this week, despite the pending approval of his club.

“Zaki is OK to join the squad and we actually asked Elazigspor to release him for the UAE trip,” the Egypt second man told FilGoal.com.

“But we need to get a response before Tuesday or else he will be unable to travel with us.”

Zaki’s continuous injury problems forced to miss most of Egypt’s games in recent years, only featuring twice under the management of Bob Bradley so far.

Egypt, who prepare for the World Cup qualifiers in March, play Ghana on January 10 before taking on Ivory Coast four days later.
