Esperance striker Emmanuel Clottey will be handed a rare start in Ghana’s friendly game against Egypt on Thursday, coach Kwesi Appiah said.
Clottey, a member of Ghana’s squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, is given the opportunity to prove himself ahead of the Black Stars’ opener against DR Congo on January 20.
The 25-year-old became a well-known name among Egyptians after scoring against Ahli and Zamalek in last season’s Champions League, including a hat-trick in the Whites’ net in Accra.
Appiah’s line-up also includes Esperance full-back Harrison Afful and Udinese star Kwadwo Asamoah.
Egypt, on the other hand, miss a number of key players including several members of the Ahli squad that travelled to Saudi Arabia to play an exhibition game against Hilal.
