Zimbabwe have changed their managing staff ahead of the next competitive double-header against Egypt, appointing German coach Klaus-Dieter Pagels as interim coach.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announced the hiring of the 63-year-old German, who has been working as a technical advisor for the team for two years.
Pagels is left with the tough task of reshuffling the Zimbabwe squad after the whole team were disbanded and coach Rahman Gumbo stepped down, following the failure to make the Nations Cup.
"I've seen so many talented young players here and I will want to bring in more players from the domestic league into the national team in a short time," he told BBC Sport.
"The reason that I said I can take the job is because I'm not afraid of anything, and from my experience I've seen so many things in football, good things and bad things, and it's not a problem for me to handle it."
Zimbabwe visit group leaders Egypt in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers on March 22, before hosting the seven-time African champions in Harare next June.
The Warriors have just one point from two games so far in Group G.
